At one point in time, a car getting 20 MPG was impressive, and it would be insanity to think that we could possibly have a car that runs purely on electricity. However, the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV is changing the way that we think about how cars function in the world.
The new Chevrolet Bolt EV is a purely electric car that is going to get up to an estimated 238 miles of range per full charge. As the average daily commute for a worker is approximately 40 miles, this means that people could potentially go a few days before having to charge their vehicle.
As for charging the battery, there are a few features that help save battery life. One is called the “regen effect”, which essentially allows drivers to slow down without using the brake pedal. As drivers let off the gas, the vehicle slows down, which transfers energy back to the battery.
The traditional way of charging the Bolt EV is with a special charger at home that gives you about 25 miles per hour of charge. It takes about 9.5 hours to completely recharge the battery.
