Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and while the holiday is meant to be a slow-paced, family-filled time to reflect on what you are grateful for, the reality is that you will be running around like a chicken—or turkey—with its head chopped off. Here are some easy tips to help you prepare for Thanksgiving.
Start thawing, early.
Buy your turkey in advance and stick it in your freezer. Doing so will ensure you get the plump bird of your Thanksgiving dreams and don’t end up leaving the supermarket emptyhanded on November 22nd. But if you are freezing it, you will need to allow plenty of time to thaw. When completely frozen, a turkey will need a day to thaw for every four pounds.
Make a schedule and assign jobs.
Stay organized. Draw up a cooking and entertaining schedule, and give everyone in your family jobs. Ask Aunt Karen to bring the mashed potatoes, and make sure your spouse knows his or her job is to help and not just watch football.
Try to enjoy the day.
After all your hard work of cleaning and cooking, take some time to enjoy the food and relax with a drink and your family.
