Visit The International Surfing Museum

Surf City

When you think of Orange County, perhaps you picture surfers riding the waves at sunrise. That’s a fair expectation, given that Huntington Beach has well-earned its nickname of “Surf City.” With that in mind, where else would the best location be for the International Surfing Museum than here in Huntington Beach?

Orange County natives, visitors, and surfers will all be stoked to check out Surf City’s contribution to California’s generous list of surfing museums. You’ll be greeted with remarkable enthusiasm for the sport, even by those who don’t partake themselves—like the museum’s founder, Natalie Kotsch. Kotsch came to California from Canada, where there was no surfing, but was entranced with the sport after her move. Thanks to her, much of the area’s recent surf history has been preserved.

During your visit, exhibitions featuring surf boards, posters, and memorabilia will demonstrate the progression of area surfers throughout the years. Rotating exhibits allow new details of the sport a chance in the spotlight and encourage return visitors. If surfing is one of your passions, a second visit further down the road is definitely worth another $2, the price of the museum’s admission. From special events to “Surfin’ Sundays” featuring live surf music, the International Surfing Museum is constantly finding a new way to celebrate the sport.
