Take Your Family on This Epic Road Trip

Road trips are a great way to bond as a family while seeing new things and having great adventures. If you have ever wanted to visit every state, Chevrolet and data scientist Randy Olson have put together an epic road trip that will take you through the 48 contiguous United States.

This trip makes one stop in each state and spans 13,389 miles. If you followed the map from end to end, you would spend 214.56 hours on the road (about nine days), which doesn’t even include time for overnight stops or any visiting time.

“This map is designed so road trippers can start anywhere and drive as much or as little as they like,” said Olson. “Across the U.S., people can create their perfect route, whether staying close to home or embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime 48-state journey.”

You can begin the journey at any point on the map. The stop in California is right in our backyard at Disneyland. If we were going to take part of this journey, we would head east to see The Grand Canyon, visit the Santa Fe Children’s Museum, and the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Or you could head north and stop at the National Automobile Museum in Reno, catch the spectacular Crater Lake National Park, and visit the iconic Pike Place Market in Seattle.

Whichever way you choose to go, come in to DeLillo Chevrolet. We’ll help make sure your car is ready for a long drive, or help you find a vehicle more up to the task.

The sun is out, the weather’s nice, and summer break is coming up fast. It seems like the right time of year to start planning your family’s next big outing on the open road; nothing quite says “summer” like a long road trip. However, you might feel like you’re at a loss when it comes to packing. How do you make sure everyone has everything they need? Just take a look at this road trip checklist, and you’ll cover all the basics.

Emergency Supplies: Everyone needs a First-Aid kit around regularly anyway, but on vacation, you should definitely have one within reach. From basics like bandages and over-the-counter cold medicine to more specific necessities like individual prescription medications to vacation staples such as sunscreen, it’s important to make sure you have all the bases covered just in case. Also, this applies to car emergencies as well — spare tires, jumper cables, and car jacks are all good to have around.

Navigation Aids: Have you ever been in a situation where your GPS lost its signal or gave you the totally wrong directions? While having a GPS on hand is important and makes the trip a lot easier and faster, having a map and printed directions around can also help streamline any bumps in the road.

Music and Entertainment: Whether you just have a few mix CDs on-hand, a book or eReader, or you bring all the kids’ handheld gaming devices, it’s good to have something around to keep people in the car occupied on the open road.

Clothing and Toiletries: The first thing most people think of when they plan on packing for vacation is clothes and toiletries. Make sure you pack comfortable clothing for when you’ll be sitting in the car for long periods of time. Also, things like toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, and the like are obviously a requirement for being comfortable and healthy. It’s also a good idea to bring spare blankets and pillows!

Food: Often overlooked, food is crucial to a road trip. It’s important to pack snacks and wholesome meals so people have something to eat on the road, instead of having to waste time and money stopping for greasy fast food.

Hopefully this road trip checklist has helped you remember something you may have overlooked. Above all, what matters most is that you spend time bonding with your loved ones and enjoying your time off.
